Student Activities

A traditional week at SIG is a very busy week! From evening programs to entertainment to Saturday Get-Away Days, SIG provides students with exceptional recreational activities that are not only fun, but educational and stimulating as well. Students use knowledge they learn at SIG during recreational activities and programs. This comprehensive approach to learning and fun is what SIG is all about.

Recreational Hour & Evening Programs and Entertainment
Each day, Monday through Friday, there is a recreational hour after the last course period. During this hour, students may participate in activities such as swimming, tennis, basketball, volleyball, chess, and music practice. Students may also choose to relax and hang out with friends. A different activity may be chosen each day and a SIG staff member supervises each activity.

SIG’s evening activities provide students with unique and distinctive cultural, intellectual and recreational opportunities. Evening activities include:

  • Professional performers entertain students with their outstanding shows. Some students may see gymnasts or magicians, while others may see Frisbee dogs or a reptile show. Other performers include dancers, singers, and improvisational groups.

  • The SIG Talent Show gives students a chance to share their distinctive talents and abilities. Students can sing a duet, play Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, give a stand-up routine, perform a cultural dance, etc.

  • The Brain Bowl is the ultimate SIG challenge, combining both speed and intellect. Students compete in a game show setting to answer challenging trivia about the following subject areas: Arts, History and Government, Geography, Literature, and Science and Technology.

  • Evening programs also include movie nights, counselor group activities, student theater performances and dances.

Weekend Programs

Saturday Get-Away Days: Several off-campus trips are planned for the two Saturdays of the SIG session. These trips provide students with a great chance to explore the various attractions in the vicinity of their campus. Some of the previous years’ trips included the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Boston’s Freedom Trail, Six Flags, New England Aquarium, and Broadway shows.

Sunday Activity Day: On the Sunday following the first week of the program, students engage in a special on-campus Activity Day. The activity involves the entire camp in social as well as intellectual engagement.

Parent Visitation Day: The final Sunday of the program is Parent Visitation Day. Parents may visit with their children and take them off campus. Parents have an opportunity to assess their children’s progress and achievement at SIG by meeting with faculty and staff. Students whose parents are unable to attend on visiting day are provided with recreational and social activities supervised by the staff.

Final Program: A final program is held on the last day of each session. Parents are encouraged to attend this special program, which recognizes and highlights student accomplishments. Certificates for successful completion of the SIG program are awarded at this event.
