Amherst College is ranked 2nd among top liberal arts colleges
and occupies a spacious 1,000-acre campus in the Pioneer Valley
of western Massachusetts. The academic and residential buildings
stand atop a hill that offers sweeping views of the Holyoke Range
and of the town of Amherst. The New England spirit is evident here.
The College has been rated for the last eight years as the first
or second best liberal arts institution by U.S. News & World Report in its annual “Guide to America’s
Best Colleges” edition.
As Amherst is one of the colleges in the Five College Consortium, it stands to reason that a college preparation emphasis has developed in our program here. Students can take several courses that support the college theme, like the two SAT Prep courses and complex interdisciplinary courses such as Sustainability and Peace Strategies.
Students seeking a college experience in this area of the country may also be interested in the other nearby consortium members: Hampshire, Mount Holyoke and Smith colleges and the University of Massachusetts. These institutions combine their academic activities in selected areas for the purpose of extending and enriching their collective educational resources. Many other great institutions of learning are also found in Massachusetts, such as Harvard, Brandeis, Tufts, and Boston Universities along with Boston and Williams Colleges. Older campers with an eye on college will find the Amherst program to be an excellent match for them.
